A young father is moving into a new house with his daughter. But he’s too busy, stressed and tired to play with her. But once she’s gone to bed, that’s when the cardboard boxes in his living room come to life and take him away on an adventure!
Full of imagination and playfulness, 'This Way Up' is a 40 minute play suitable for ages 3 and up! Told through puppetry, original music and without words, you won’t have seen family theatre like this before!
Foxtail Theatre is the brain-child of Lucy Padwick, a Manchester based actor with a passion for reminding us to find magic in the mundane. Lucy trained at Manchester School of Theatre and since graduating, has stayed in Greater Manchester working as an actor.
Previous audience members commented:
“Loved it. As a dad of 2 boys under 5, it really resonated with me. The boys were engaged throughout too.”
“This is perfect for children but with message for adults/parents too!”
“We forgot about the puppeteers- felt real!”
'This Way Up' was originally created for a 20 minute dissertation performance for her final year at drama school but she was so overwhelmed by the positive response that she created Foxtail Theatre to bring the play to the public. Named after a comical puppet mishap during a children’s play in Sixth Form, Foxtail Theatre was created to make stories that appeal to the child in us all and bring families together in the theatre.
In April 2018, 'This Way Up' debuted at 53two and was received with great success. The play had developed into a 40 minute production with six local actors and a LOT of cardboard. This year, Foxtail Theatre is joining the GMFringe to bring back 'This Way Up' and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever! More puppets, more locations, more fun!
